Our work

We aim to provide psychological support and, most importantly, financial assistance to the families of children suffering from cancer and leukemia who are receiving treatment at the Paediatric Oncology Department of Makarios Hospital or are abroad for treatment.

The Foundation was established to promote, support, and develop charitable and humanitarian initiatives. It also supports the development of infrastructure, buildings, and equipment, as well as research related to the fight against cancer.

The Foundation has established a collaboration with the Polyfunctional Centre for Speech and Intelligence, which provides psychological support for children as well as speech therapy and occupational therapy services. In addition, the Foundation has partnered with a Mental Health Counsellor based in Berlin to provide psychological support to families and children receiving treatment abroad.

The Foundation also provides transportation services for travel to and from Makarios Hospital, as well as to Larnaca and Paphos airports.

It has also adopted Ronald McDonald rooms in Cyprus and Germany to host families during treatment.

The Foundation supports the development of infrastructure, buildings, and equipment, as well as research related to combating childhood cancer.

The public is also informed and educated through video podcasts featuring doctors and specialists.

The Foundation is supported by charitable events organised by various organisations, groups, or individuals who wish to actively support our cause.

The last Saturday before Christmas hosts the now well-established event “We Swim with the Navy SEALs for our Little Heroes” at Olympion Coast in Limassol. Alongside the swim, the “Walk of Love” takes place along the beach, ending at the pier of the old Limassol harbour.

Every year, hundreds of families choose our beautiful bookmarks instead of traditional wedding or baptism favours during their most special moments, such as their wedding or their child’s baptism, thereby contributing to the work of our Foundation.

The Little Heroes Foundation supports children and their families psychologically by granting their wishes.

• Every year, around 250,000 children around the world are diagnosed with cancer, of which only 20% have access to proper medical care.
• 70% to 80% of children who have access to specialised treatment come out winners with advances in medicine and because of the availability of medicines and trained scientific staff.
• More than 150,000 deaths each year could have been avoided if early diagnosis and specialised treatment were available to all children.

The causes of cancer in children and adolescents are in most cases unknown.
